Kyle Banta has been teaching highland bagpipes since 2004. He has over 20 years-experience on bagpipes, and over 12 years on snare drum. He started teaching a friend of his brother, then decided that he wanted to continue sharing his knowledge and teach others. He founded his own teaching business, Kyle Banta Bagpiping. The name has undergone a few changes since its inception, and is now known as Banta Music to include a diversity of musical aspects.
In 2006, Kyle created his Youtube channel so that he could share his passion for bagpipes with a broader audience. His channel has been viewed by thousands of people around the world, and has helped countless pipers with their musical journey.
As a bandsman, Kyle has played and competed on bagpipes in pipe bands from Grade 5 (novice) to grade 1 (professional/top). He has also served as lead drummer for a grade 4 and grade 5 band. He has competed in the World Pipe band Championships in Juvenile, Grade 2 and 1 many times since his first trip in 2007 in the juvenile grade.
As a soloist, Kyle has won many awards in the top amateur grade before being promoted to the Open/Professional ranks in early 2021. He is a member of the BC Pipers Association (BCPA), and the Pipers and Pipe Band Society of Ontario (PPBSO), and served as a director for the BCPA for 4 years.
Kyle has taught several bands and currently serves as Pipe Major/Director of the Vancouver Metro Pipe Band (BC).
Besides bagpipes, Kyle is a certified forklift operator, and a certified early childhood educator assistant. He served as manager for a licensed childcare facility for 3 years, and has over 10 years experience working with children and youth.
